In der Fotografiewelt wird Lewis Baltz bis heute oft noch übersehen. Die Galerie Thomas Zander zeigt in Köln nun die bahnbrechende Serie „The New Industrial Parks near Irvine, California“ aus dem Jahr 1974, die wohl die wichtigste und einflussreichste Arbeit des 2014 verstorbenen Künstlers und in seiner Vollständigkeit ohnehin nur selten zu sehen ist. 1975 war sie auch Teil der legendären und von William Jenkins kuratierten Gruppenausstellung „New Topographics: Photographs of a Man-altered Landscape.
Neben dieser Arbeit sind auch rund ein Dutzend Vintage-Abzüge aus Baltz‘ nicht minder beeindruckenden Frühwerk „The Prototype Works“ zu sehen. Die Ausstellung läuft noch bis zum 29. Oktober 2025 und meine Besprechung ist bei Monopol-Online erschienen.
